When 600 million years ago the earth and the oceans changed the surface, this great Monolith appeared. Named after its discoverer, AYERS is situated in the ULURU National Park and rises 348 meters, measuring over eight kilometers around its base. Uluru is the name of the Aboriginal tribe who lived in the area.
Thousands of people from around the world have visited the Park since its establishment by the government in 1958. The sacred Rock was returned to the Aboriginals on October in 1985. Since then visitors are allowed to admire the Ayers Rock only from the ground, no longer climbing upon it.
